began as a dream when founder Charles Melville Hays, president of the Grand Trunk Railway Company, saw the island on which it sits as a perfect terminus for marine trade, and rail and sea travel. Unfortunately, on the trip back from Europe in 1912, Hays meet with an untimely and tragic death aboard the RMS Titanic.
Prince Rupert is located on Kaien Island on the northwest coast of British Columbia at the western end of the Yellowhead Highway 16, 48km south of southeast Alaska, approximately 145 from Terrace and 725 km west of Prince George.
